What's In It For Us?

Through our scholarship and teaching, we provide analysis and perspectives that today’s abolitionist movement must have in order to be credible and truly effective. We make our work exceedingly pertinent.

We endow our scholarship with an immediacy that gives new purpose to our fields of specialization and motivates our students

We enrich the value of interdisciplinary study while exercising leadership in the development of a major new area of academic specialization

We motivate our students by opening antislavery opportunities by sponsoring internships, research, and community service projects.

We promote the creation of abolitionist organizations on our campus and in our communities.

We promote an expanding educational presence for Historians Against Slavery at professional meetings and electronically, through this website, by contributing syllabi, commentary on research and teaching, reviews of books and films, evaluations of antislavery websites, news of antislavery activities, and reports from our individual campuses.

Within our profession, on our campuses, and with the public at large we work to generate an expanding antislavery impulse.
