Robert E. Wright is the treasurer and a founding member of Historians Against Slavery. He is the Nef Family Chair of Political Economy at Augustana University in South Dakota and the author of The Poverty of Slavery: How Unfree Labor Pollutes the Economy (Palgrave, 2017), which defines slavery quantitatively and shows that unfree forms of labor never create economic growth or development.
